Confirm that the substrate is clean, dry, level, and structurally sound.

Bathrooms, shower areas, and other wet locations must have a properly installed waterproofing system before panel installation.

Add water and mix the mortar according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

• Mix thoroughly.
• Maintain a consistency suitable for installation.
• Use the mortar within the specified working time.

Do not add water to mortar that has already begun to harden.

Use a notched trowel to spread the mortar evenly across the substrate.

Comb the mortar ridges in one consistent direction.

For large-format panels, exterior installations, or wet areas, apply a thin skim coat of mortar to the back of each panel.

• Press the panel firmly into the mortar bed.

Use a rubber roller or the palms of your hands to apply even pressure from the center toward the edges.

• Before the mortar sets, adjust:

• Horizontal and vertical alignment
• Panel flatness
• Joints and texture alignment

Large-format panels should be installed by two people.

• Use a rubber roller to apply even pressure from the center of the panel toward the edges.
• If the panel slides or the edges lift, use tape, support braces, or brad nails for temporary support.
• Place brad nails along edges, joints, or other areas that can be easily repaired. Brad nails are only for temporary support and must not replace the mortar bond.

• Remove excess mortar from the panel surface and joints before it hardens.
• Do not move the panels or remove temporary supports until the mortar has cured sufficiently.
• Follow the mortar manufacturer’s requirements for open time, working time, and cure time.
